I know it’s only the beginning of July. I start many seeds this week for fall. That means I better get organized!
One way that helps me is too create charts and drawings of what I will be growing and selling. It gives me peace of mind once it is down on paper, otherwise all I do is think, “I need to do this!” If you get that anxious feeling too, this might help. Here is a picture of my chart click on it to see larger.. If you live in Central Fl. you can use this too. For crops not listed see the Fl. Planting Guide below.
Here are a few other things we should be doing,
- Cleaning out old crops and debris
- Ordering seeds and or transplants
- Mixing in new compost (doesn’t have to be totally composted at this point)
- Sketching out the garden, what to grow and where it will go, how much space do I need?
- Adding new beds, growing areas etc.
- Address your watering plan and supports needed
Use the chart above, and these other guides for help Fall Garden Guide, Drawing Up Your Plan, Fl. Planting Guide
Hope this helps keep everyone one on track.
Do you start your seeds in a green house?
I start most seeds inside under lights for the first 4-6 weeks. I can control more that way. Starting them in a greenhouse would be fine as long as it is cool enough.
I also live in Central Florida. I was wondering about the lights you use. Do you need special grow lights like T5’s or can you buy some cheaper shop light fixtures and buy the correct temperature bulbs? I’m not sure if investing the money on a fixture to specificly grow plants is necessary?
You can use regular fluorescent shop lights. Try to get one bulb that is the coolest and one that is the warmest to get the broadest light spectrum. Then make sure to adjust them to keep them 2″ or so above the seedlings as they grow.
Hi,
I am in Brooksville. Could I please get a catalog?

Thank you,

Thank you SOOOOOO much for that seed starting chart. It is *exactly* what I needed to get my act together. I tried writing on my calendar last year but there was just too much to try to keep of. This chart is simple and easy to follow.
Now if I can just get a good garden layout going.
Your so very welcome! Glad it helped.
Great job Honey!
