Brassica oleracea var. gemmifera
First introduced in the 1890’s. This is a very hardy variety that produces a single stalk with 50-100 Brussels over a period of time. They ripen from the bottom of the stem up and should be harvested that way. Brussels Sprouts are one of the long season crops so should be started 6-8 weeks before transplanting.
Sow seeds in sterile seed mix 1/2″ deep, Germination temperature 75°, 7-14 days. Space plants 20″ apart, in rows 24″ apart. They are heavy feeders and need regular fertilizing to produce a good crop.
