Sweet Peppers
Grown & Tested for Southern Heat & Humidity
Sweet peppers thrive in Southern gardens when varieties are selected for heat tolerance and long growing seasons. In Zones 8–10, extended summers and warm nights provide ideal conditions for strong fruit development — but sustained high temperatures and humidity can stress varieties that aren’t well adapted. Every sweet pepper variety we offer is grown and tested in Southern conditions before being added to our collection.
Southern gardeners often begin pepper transplants early in spring, taking advantage of quickly warming soils. With the right varieties, sweet peppers can continue producing steadily through summer and even into fall. Through hands-on seasonal testing, we select heirloom sweet peppers that maintain vigor, set fruit reliably in warm weather, and demonstrate resilience under Southern humidity.
Heirloom sweet peppers are valued for their flavor, diversity, and adaptability. Many open-pollinated varieties develop strong root systems and sturdy plants that perform well in extended growing seasons. Because they are non-hybrid, gardeners can save seeds from their most productive plants and build resilience suited to their own Southern microclimate year after year.
From crisp bells and thick-walled stuffing peppers to flavorful Italian and frying types, our heirloom sweet pepper seeds are chosen with Southern performance in mind. Whether you’re gardening in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, or other warm Southern regions, these varieties are selected to handle heat while delivering excellent flavor and dependable harvests.
Sweet peppers are often planted near productive heirloom tomatoes in Southern gardens, where both crops benefit from warm soil and long daylight hours.
Many gardeners also include nitrogen-fixing beans and peas nearby to support soil health throughout the growing season.
