To grow pumpkins from seed, plant them in a sunny spot with rich, well-drained soil after the last frost, ideally in mounds, about 1 inch deep and 3-5 seeds per mound, leaving plenty of space for vines. Water consistently, thin seedlings to the strongest one or two plants per mound, and provide plenty of nutrients, harvesting when the skin is hard for a successful fall crop.

1. Site Selection & Soil Prep
Sun: Choose a location with full sun (6+ hours).
Space: Give vines lots of room to sprawl (50-100 sq ft per plant).
Soil: Needs fertile, well-drained soil, enriched with compost or aged manure.
2. Planting Seeds
When: Plant outdoors after all danger of frost has passed and soil is warm (around 65°F/18°C).
Method: Sow seeds directly in the garden to avoid transplant shock.
Mounds: Create mounds (hills) for better drainage and warmth, or plant in rows.
Depth & Spacing: Plant seeds 1 inch deep, 3-5 seeds per mound, spacing mounds 4-10 feet apart depending on variety size.
Pre-Soak (Optional): Soaking seeds in warm water for a few hours can speed germination.
Care & Maintenance
3.Watering:
Water deeply and consistently, especially during fruit set; avoid overhead watering.
Thinning:
Once seedlings have a few leaves, snip (don't pull) all but the two strongest plants per mound.
Fertilizing:
Feed with a nitrogen-rich fertilizer when vines start developing runners and again when fruits appear.
Mulch:
Use organic mulch (after soil warms) or black plastic to conserve moisture and suppress weeds.
4. Harvesting
When: Harvest when the rind is hard and doesn't dent easily with a fingernail.
and Leave a handle (stem) attached and allow pumpkins to dry in the sun for a few days before storing
